Piano Explorer Composition Contest

Posted Tuesday, February 21 in News

The 2012 Composition Contest theme is an interesting one: “Life in the Ocean.”  The January Piano Explorer says this about the contest:

“Life in the ocean is colorful and varied, full of amazing sea creatures and plants – small and large fish, crustaceans, jelly fish, majestic mammals, corals, seaweed. Oceans are huge, mysterious, and sometimes cruel; they are home to thousands of species.

Pick part of ocean life that fascinates you and write a musical composition that describes it. You can visit an aquarium, look at photos in books about nature, or watch television shows about ocean life for inspiration. On the back of the music you must write a short description of what your music is about.”

Here are the rules:

*You or your teacher must subscribe to Piano Explorer. (All school-age PCS students are subscribers!)

* Only solo piano music will be considered.

* Write your name, age, address, phone number, and teacher’s name on the back of the music.

* All submissions must be postmarked or faxed by the deadline: March 15, 2012.

* All compositions must be written by students. (Parents and teacher may help write down the notes.)

* Do not quote other pieces of music in your compositions.

* Keep a copy of the music for yourself.

* Judging is based on creativity, musical ideas, and how well the music applies the contest theme.

Any student who enters the PIANO EXPLORER Composition Contest will be given the opportunity to be recorded on video playing their composition. We will then POST that video on the PCS Facebook page!

We would love to see a WINNER from PCS – we certainly have enough students with the potential!
