If you’ve been in Kindermusik classes for any length of time, you might have noticed that there are some things we do every single week. For instance, we always start with our hello song and end class by singing farewell. For the younger classes, we always have cuddle time followed by story time. And for the older classes, there’s always a sharing time before singing goodbye to one another. We love how the children pick up on these weekly routines and come to eagerly anticipate them!
So why is it that we have these routines set in place in our classes? It’s because routines give a child a sense of predictability and security. Children tend to feel safer and more confident when they know what to expect. With so many things constantly changing in their little worlds—getting bigger, gaining new skills, maturing emotionally and intellectually—children need some things to depend on to stay the same. Of course, they also need the challenge of the “new,” balanced with the routine. So, we are always careful to introduce a new twist or a new activity or song, even as we keep the framework of our Kindermusik routines in place.
You can take great joy and delight in the fact that your child is benefiting from the consistency of having class each week and anticipating the special routines awaiting him in every class. Your child thrives when there are routines and has a greater capacity for learning new things as a result. Here in our Kindermusik classes at PCS we love having such an important role in your child’s musical development and being a part of your weekly routine!
